Experience the tranquility of the desert, the clean air, the unspoilt nature, the panorama of the desert mountains and the desert wild life. A trip to the desert is something to reset your own system and makes you able to take a deep breath again.

Deep South Diving center and Tondoba eco lodge are situated in the southern part of the Red Sea. The accommodation is virtually in the desert, but there is more to see.

Cleopatra's Ruby mines

These mines are situated in a deserted place, about 18 km into the desert from the coastal road. You will be driven there in a 4x4. The mines themselves are not visible, but the houses build for the workers are. As well as a few nice temples honoring their gods. The ground is littered with pottery shards. Please be aware that those shards a part of the Egyptian heritage and it's strictly forbidden to take them. Walk around in houses and bedrooms, occupied some 4000 years ago!

Astronomy center

A trip to the Astronomy center is thé place to be for stargazing. Because ambient light is non existent in the desert, you get a clear view of the Milky Way. In the Astronomy center, there are telescopes to look through, so you can see all the constellations of the zodiac.  Of course, this trip will be made in the evening. It's possible to combine this with a trip to the Ruby mines or with an overnight stay.

Overnight desert trip

If you want to experience the desert completely, you need to sleep in the desert. Complete silence, a star filled sky and a feeling your alone in the world. You can either go by 4x4 or by camel. We will provide you with a guide, some food and drink and some some blankets.
